About

Born on the island of Curaçao in the Caribbean, Sue moved to Amsterdam at the age of 7. In pursuit of finding a sense of belonging in the world, Sue has moved a few times and has lived in London, Dublin and now Singapore together with her husband and their 4-month old daughter.
Starting out in life, Sue’s plan was to become a dancer. Unfortunately, an injury sustained at 16 meant she could not pursue a career in dance. Sue has spent the last fifteen years building her industry experience across various functions including human resources, and customer success. Prior to Facebook, she was Head of Customer Success at LinkedIn and previously held various leadership roles in Europe working for companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Canon. In her current role, Sue currently leads a team that focuses on supporting businesses to grow and scale their impact through digital adoption in Malaysia.
In addition to her role at Facebook, Sue is currently pursuing an executive master’s degree in organisational behaviour at INSEAD.
Sue has learnt in life that “everything is figureoutable”, having switched careers and countries several times, not necessarily intentionally or with a specific plan, but always able to make it work. Having seen her mother’s example of going it alone and projecting strength and independence, these qualities have naturally been instilled in Sue. Her biggest insight has been coming to the realisation that being strong and independent does not have to be a default position. Self-compassion has been the biggest lesson she has learnt from the pandemic. Sue truly believes that progress is more important than perfection.

Education

BSc Human Resource Management (2007)
INSEAD MSc Organisational Behaviour (2022)

Highlights

  • Giving birth to a healthy baby girl in October 2021.
  • Getting into INSEAD. Sue has always been fascinated by human behaviour, especially in the context of team dynamics which led to her enrolling on an executive master’s degree at INSEAD to deepen her understanding of the human psyche in the context of work. As the first in her family to graduate, Sue never in a million years imagined she would be one of the 24 students (out of 3,000 applicants!) annually to be accepted in this program.
  • Top 30 Ethnic Minority Leaders in the Financial Times (2017) for her work with talent from underrepresented backgrounds.
Fun Fact

I once appeared in the New York Times.

“The longest relationship you will ever be in is with yourself. So, affirm yourself and own your agency. You can and should turn to others for help when you need it and having a support network matters. However, there comes a time when you have to decide your own path. The world is not a fair place, and I cannot control how people see me or treat me, but I can always choose to use my agency, to become a mentor to others and share my stories in the hope it inspires others.”
