About

Born in Singapore to a Nigerian father and Singaporean mother, Ijechi has spent much of her life in the ‘Lion City’, where she completed her Bachelor of Laws. She was later admitted to practice law in both New York and Singapore, and entered private practice, specialising in civil and commercial litigation at a Singapore-based law firm.
As a child of a migrant, and having grown up in a nation of immigrants, Ijechi has always had a keen interest in migrant rights and issues, and a passion for public interest work. In 2021, she returned to the non-profit sector, and now leads the Singapore office of Justice Without Borders (JWB) in improving cross-border access to justice for migrant workers. .

“Hutang emas boleh dibayar, hutang budi dibawa mati.” – a Malay proverb

In English, this proverb means “a debt of money can be settled while a debt of gratitude is eternal”. To me, it is a reminder of the importance of honouring those who have provided us with support and kindness on our paths to success. It is the idea that we cannot achieve success without some external support, guidance and generosity from others along the way. It reinforces the concept of community and the role that networks play in a person’s development and success.
