Fun Fact
If I were in a room with each of my grandparents everyone in that room would have been born in a different country.
‘The Japanese word ‘ikagai’ translates to our reason for being or life’s purpose. The Western World sees it as the intersection of what you love; what you’re good at; what you can be paid for and what the world needs. What I found during my time in Singapore, far away from family and most of my “old” friends, is that one can (and should find) the points of overlap between two or more of these things or fill one’s life with activities from each of these. I discovered my passion for travel and service during my college years: as a member of the community service co-ed fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, subsequently leading to Project Lead for New York Cares at Citbank; a nonprofit organization, Community Service Chair, for a women’s society called Sisters In Singapore. I will always remember the invaluable joy and sense of purpose I discovered during these times.’
