About
Akiva works for Berkley Energy – a private equity firm focused on renewables – and is passionate about sustainability and ESG risk management. She has significant experience working across many continents from South and Central America to Africa and currently in Southeast Asia and India. Meeting and working with many local communities of different cultural backgrounds has been one of the perks of her career, and has also been satisfying in being able to ensure the drive towards sustainable energy does not harm local communities. Akiva’s Jamaican heritage has provided her with the tenacity and determination to accomplish her achievements despite the odds and which led her to the USA where she obtained her degree from Howard University. Home for Akiva is now Singapore which is where she met her husband and had her son.
Education
BSc in Civil Engineering from Howard University (USA), MSc in Energy and Environmental Management from Twente University (Netherlands).
Highlights
Worked and lived in Laos for 4 months among a local Agrarian community to ensure that the impacts of a planned hydropower project to the Hmong people, were identified and mitigated.
Akiva also adds published children’s book author to her repertoire with the release of her first title ‘If a Butterfly Can Fly, Why Can’t I?’
